California validation underway

Hang 10 Emissions Certification

A mobile app being developed to make California Clean Truck Check emissions compliance testing more portable, straightforward, and accessible.

Clean Truck Check without the dedicated PC

Use a compatible phone or tablet instead of an expensive diagnostic computer

Hang 10 is being developed as a mobile software app for Android phones and tablets and Apple iPhone and iPad devices. A dedicated Windows laptop, shop computer, or high-end diagnostic PC is not required.

The app is designed to run on mainstream mobile hardware and work with supported vehicle-interface equipment, keeping the computing side of Clean Truck Check testing compact, portable, and cost-conscious.

Mobile by design

Carry the app on a compatible phone or tablet instead of dedicating a PC to emissions testing.

Simple, guided workflow

The testing process is designed to be clear and straightforward so a CARB-credentialed Clean Truck Check tester can focus on the inspection rather than learning complicated PC diagnostic software.

Test where the vehicle is

Clean Truck Check OBD testing can be performed away from a fixed inspection station when CARB requirements are met, making a portable mobile app especially useful for fleets and mobile testers.

Built for professional use

Hang 10 is being developed specifically around the data collection, validation, and submission requirements of California's Clean Truck Check program.

Why Clean Truck Check matters

California requirements can follow a heavy-duty vehicle into the state

California's Clean Truck Check program is a heavy-duty vehicle inspection and maintenance program intended to verify that emissions-control equipment continues to operate properly.

The program applies to nearly all diesel and alternative-fuel heavy-duty vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds that operate on California public roads and highways. Importantly, the requirement is not limited to vehicles registered in California; subject vehicles registered elsewhere can also be required to comply when they operate in the state.

Current program requirements for subject vehicles include reporting, an annual compliance fee, and submission of required passing emissions tests. For eligible OBD testing, CARB allows the test to be conducted wherever the vehicle is located when it is performed by a credentialed tester using an approved test device and the necessary Internet connectivity.

Why that creates a need for Hang 10

A fleet vehicle may need California compliance even if its home terminal is hundreds or thousands of miles from California. A portable app can let a properly credentialed tester perform the required OBD test where the truck is located instead of relying on a dedicated PC workstation or a fixed California inspection location.

Clean Truck Check eligibility and testing requirements are established by CARB and may change. Vehicle owners and testers should verify current requirements with the California Air Resources Board.

Designed for credentialed testers

Professional compliance testing without unnecessary complexity

CARB requires Clean Truck Check emissions compliance testing to be performed by a credentialed tester using a CARB-approved OBD test device. Hang 10 is being designed around that workflow from the beginning.

Our goal is to make the app intuitive enough that a credentialed tester who understands the Clean Truck Check process can become productive quickly, without needing to become an expert in traditional PC-based diagnostic software.

Development and certification status

Hang 10 Emissions Certification has been submitted for California review and is undergoing the applicable validation and certification process.

Hang 10 has not yet received final CARB approval or certification and cannot yet be used for official Clean Truck Check compliance testing.

Product capabilities, supported vehicles and hardware, pricing, and availability are subject to change while development and certification are underway.
